BHADERWAH : On the directions of the National Legal Services Authority and the J&K State Legal Services Authority, a Permanent Lok Adalat was organised by the District Legal Services Authority at the District Court complex Bhaderwah under the chairmanship of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Ashok Kumar Shavan , who is also the Principal District and Sessions Judge, here today.The Permanent Lok Adalat was held under the guidance and supervision of Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, who is also the patron-in-chief of the J&K State Legal Services Authority whereas Sub Judge Bhaderwah Renu Dogra Gupta , Munsiff Judge Sandeep Sen and Secretary DLSA Susheel Singh were also present on the occasion . A total number of three benches were constituted.A total of 99 cases of different nature were taken up. Of them, 44 cases were settled on the spot. A total of Rs 69,31,00 was realised in cases settled on the spot .Speaking on the occasion Retainer Lawyers Advocate Manjeet Razdan and Advocate Mohd Majid Malik said the Permanent Lok Adalat, organized under Section 22-B of The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 for providing compulsory pre-litigative mechanism for conciliation and settlement of cases relating to Public Utility Services like transport, postal, telegraph etc. They said even if the parties fail to reach to a settlement, the Permanent Lok Adalat gets jurisdiction to decide the dispute, provided, the dispute does not relate to any offence.Further, the Award of the Permanent Lok Adalat is final and binding on all the parties. They informed that the jurisdiction of the Permanent Lok Adalats is upto Rs. Ten Lakhs.
