Continuous Mobile Internet shutdowns in Jammu and Kashmir since August 5 2019 results into huge loss in economic section reported the whole Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the report of J&K Coalition of Civil Society (J&K CCS) it describes the “Internet siege as collective punishment” to people of J&K.
As per the report ‘’Kashmir Internet Siege’’ the network disruption has done the people of J&K as a result of siege which control over access to the internet.
There has been a continuous internet suspension by the government by putting emergency order. As the beginning of this year 2020 2G internet connectivity was restored. About 70 such suspensions have been recorded.
As per the report of August 2019, this shutdown has affected every livelihood and a loss of Rs.178.78 billion has been recorded where by this shutdown about 500,000 people lose their jobs.
Youth of J&K are getting rid of fake promises by government. After abrogation of Article 370, J&K administration announced 50 thousand jobs for J&K youth, but it remained a Jumla only.
Even the Health indices show a decrease in number of visitors to the hospitals in August 2019 dropping by as much as 38%.Also Education suffers a lot. After one year of this shutdown in August 2020, first anniversary has been seen where students of school, colleges and higher education suffers by not attending school and colleges and universities.
As per the reports, “An expansive timeline presents a temporal visualization of the fluidity and complexity of the digital siege as it unfolded through the first 300 days, across different regional geographies with in Jammu And Kashmir.”
