Opposing charging of full-fee and hostel charges, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) student leader Anuj Manhas has appealed to the Government to reduce 50 % fee of the students in all the Universities of Jammu and Kashmir and two Central Universities.

In a statement to the press, JKAP student leader Anuj Manhas said that the universities have been charging fees to the students even as the educational institutions remained closed. In this pandemic situation, Manhas said that the Government should take serious note of the attitude of the Universities administration compelling students to deposit the fee.

“The students should only be charged a 50 % fee. However, the hostels which remained closed during the pandemic and no student stayed in these hostels,” he said.

He said that when the students did not stay in the university hostels why did the university administration charge hostel fee to the students.

“The hostel charges should not be taken from them. Poor students from far-flung areas stay in these hotels and during these days, they stay in their respective homes. Therefore, charging any fee for hostel facilities is unjustified,” he said.

He said that for hostels, the universities should charge minimum charges and do not force students to deposit full charges keeping in view the covid-19 situation.
