What will happen if river Chenab and it’s tributaries overflow?

The Chenab River is one of the most important rivers in India. The importance of this river is further enhanced in Jammu and Kashmir as it employs thousands of people and it irrigates the surrounding areas.

In addition, the river has the potential to generate thousands of megawatts of electricity and, of course, most of the cities in northern India glow on the electricity generated by it.

While this river has become a source of employment for millions of people, the power generated by this river is an important source of income for the Indian economy.

The river, which enters Jammu and Kashmir from Padar, passes through several settlements and towns, irrigating the surrounding lands.

The rivers flowing from the glaciers in the skyscrapers of the Chenab Valley merge into this river to form a huge reservoir of water. Due to which its strength increases immensely.

Every five kilometres, hundreds of rivers merge into this river from both sides. Most of these rivers are capable of generating hydroelectric power on their own.

But this river, which irrigates millions of kanals of land, generates millions of megawatts of electricity, and provides employment to millions of people, has also been plagued by years of indifference and ungratefulness on the part of the rulers. Every day, tons of garbage and plastic are dumped in the river, which pollutes the river’s water, as well as the destruction of aquatic animals.

The water in the river has become dangerously polluted due to the plastic in the garbage dumps, which has caused the water level in the river to fall considerably, but surprisingly, the environmentalists are Ignoring the river from the top.

The tributaries of the Chenab have been treated in a similar manner and have shrunk into smaller canals.

While global warming poses a serious threat to the entire international community, the Chenab Valley cannot be considered safe, as most of the glaciers that supply water to the tributaries of the Chenab River have reached the point of melting, and the day is not far when the glaciers that keep these rivers flowing will melt and create problems for the people living around the rivers.

According to a conservative estimate, forest fires sometimes expand their range and engulf the lush green forests around the glaciers. The heat of the fire, the hazardous gases and global warming makes the situation worst. The situation created by these is proving to be a slow poison for these reservoirs. Beside these the people of the settlements along the way are dumping piles of garbage in these rivers full of clean and clear water, making them Dirty these rivers full of Hazardous wastes flow into the Chenab River.

The administration and the people are busy manipulating the waves of this great river, but it is unimaginable when the mood of this dangerous river and its most dangerous tributaries will change due to pollution and unwarranted tampering.
