West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her anger over the Election Commission’s announcement that the Assembly election in the State will be held in eight phases, and insinuated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a hand in the planning of the elections. “Elections will be held in three phases in Assam. In Tamil Nadu, which has 234 seats, the elections will be held on a single day. In Kerala, where there is a CPI(M) government it will be held in one day. Why will it be held in eight phases in Bengal, which has 294 seats? For whose benefit is this? The Election Commission should remain a little rational,” said Mamata.
Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Friday announced the dates for elections in five states, including West Bengal. Bengal will have the highest number of elections in eight phases. Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee has attacked the Election Commission over this. She said that the commission has fixed the dates according to the election visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. What is the intention of the Election Commission? Why Voting in Three Stages in a District?
Mamta alleged that elections in eight phases in Bengal are being conducted at the behest of BJP. She said, “When elections are being held in three states in one phase and in Assam in three phases, then why was it decided to hold elections in eight phases in Bengal?” Mamta also said that why elections are being held in the same district of Bengal in two or three phases. This is done deliberately by BJP. Modi and Shah are misusing their power, but the people of Bengal will respond to the BJP.
