Under the guidance of Chairman DLSA and supervision of Secretary DLSA ( Sub Judge ) Mudassir Farooq, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bhaderwah held a day-long awareness session on the issue of right to life and personal liberty as part of the access to justice initiative. On the occasion, Chairman District Development Council Doda Dhananter Singh Kotwal was the chief guest, while Chairman Block Development Council Bhaderwah Omi Chand was the guest of honour, and Block Development Officer ( BDO ) Bhaderwah Sourab Sharma was the special guest.
Advocate Mohd Majid Malik, who spoke at the event, stated that in India, Article 21 of the constitution guarantees the right to life and personal liberty, and that it is the fundamental right of everyone in this country to live in dignity, free of exploitation. Advocate Mohd Majid Malik further stated that Article 21 covered the right to health and a means of subsistence, and that no one’s life or personal liberty can be taken away without following a legal procedure. The new interpretation of article 21 in the Meenaka Gandhi vs Union of India ( 1978 ) case has led to a new age of expansion of the frontiers of right to life and personal liberty, according to the resource person. He also mentioned the case of D.B.M. Patnaik vs. State of Andhra Pradesh, in which some prisoners challenged some restrictions as violating their rights under Article 21 of the Indian constitution, and said that Article 38 of the Indian constitution obligates the state to ensure that a social request for the advancement of govt assistance of the individuals is met, but that without general health, we will not be able to do so.
