Officials in central Kashmir’s Budgam district said on Friday that a leopard killed a minor girl and devoured the majority of her body.
They said the girl, Adda Yasir Mir, daughter of Yasir Ahmad Mir, had gone missing from Housing Colony Ompora Humhama Budgam at 4 p.m., and her family had filed a report with the local police station. While most people assumed the girl had been abducted by the leopard, their worst fears were realised when a team of police, SDRF, and locals discovered a few of her body parts in a dense nursery.
Locals claimed that a leap (group) of leopards has been spotted roaming the area for some time, and that wildlife officials have done little to capture the wild animals. No wildlife officer could be reached for comment right away.
