With delimitation approaching, calls for a new district in Chenab Valley, Bhaderwah, have grown louder from a wide section of society, particularly among the youth. Residents have put up banners in several locations around town in support of their demand, claiming that a new district called Bhaderwah would help the region develop. Their argument has gotten a lot of attention.
“It has been the people of Bhaderwah’s dream for decades to see the town become the district headquarters, but previous governments and their leaders have always ignored Bhaderwah, creating more administrative units within the constituency but not upgrading Bhaderwah to district with a preplanned conspiracy. Tourism and business activities will boom if Bhaderwah is made a district, according to Advocate Mohd Majid Malik, who has been leading the agitation for district Bhaderwah since 2000.
He stated that the demand for the creation of a district in Bhaderwah has been pending for nearly 20 years.
