In its inaugural meeting on Saturday, the Shopian Working Journalists’ Association (SWJA) established an interim body of local journalists in this south Kashmir district.
According to a senior journalist, the meeting was called after agreement was reached on the formation of a body to address pending issues and other relevant grievances of journalists working for various regional and national news organisations. During the nearly two-hour meeting, many issues arose, which were discussed in detail, he said.
The members formed an interim body under the banner of the Shopian Working Journalists’ Association after due deliberation (SWJA).
Mohammad Ashraf Hammad, a senior journalist, was named interim president, and Umar Rashid, a GNS correspondent, was named interim secretary. Gulzar Bhat, a Greater Kashmir correspondent, was named the association’s spokesperson, and Shah Irshad, a Gulistan Tv correspondent, was named the association’s treasurer.
Fayaz Wani, Editor Daily Ilhaq; Jan Nisar Ahmad, Correspondent Prasar Bharti; Rashid Hassan, Correspondent; Sheikh Hilal, Correspondent Kashmir Life; Junaid Gulzar, Mir Aasif, Mohammad Umar Malik, Suhail Shabir, Mubashir Bhat, Qazi Asif, Yawar Nizaam, Basharat Amin, Raja Zaid were among the prominent journalists who attended the meeting
As far as we know, the interim body will be replaced by an elected body very soon.
