Famous Fatwah Portal Ask Imam’s Mufti Ebrahim Desai passes away

Mufti Ebrahim Desai, an Islamic scholar and jurist who was regarded as one of South Africa’s senior Muftis, died on July 15th in Durban. Several scholars, including Mufti Yasir Nadeem al-Wajidi, Abdur Rahman ibn Yusuf Mangera and Mufti Ibn Adam al-Kawthari, expressed their sadness over his death.

Mufti Ebrahim had studied Ifta under Mufti Ahmad Khanpuri and was a graduate of Jamia Dabhel. He later rose through the ranks of Jamiatul Ulama KZN’s fatwa department to become its head Mufti. Mufti Faisal al-Mahmudi and Mufti Abrar Mirza are among his thousands of students. Mufti Ebrahim’s death, according to Omar Suleiman, is a huge loss for the Ummah.

He published a number of works. “Imam Bukhari and his well-known Jami al-Sahih,” “Introduction to Islamic Commerce,” “Introduction to Hadith,” and “Commentary on Qaseedah Burdah” are just a few examples.

Mufti Ebrahim Desai founded the “Ask Imam Fatawa Portal”, an online Islamic question and answer database run by Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah.
