Jammu: Pilot, Co-Pilot Feared Dead As Army Helicopter Crashes Into Ranjit Sagar Dam In Kathua

Officials say an Indian Army aviation corps helicopter crashed near the Ranjit Sagar Dam in the Basohli area of Kathua on Tuesday. The pilot and co-pilot are believed to have died in the crash.

According to them, the helicopter crashed around 1020 hours. Later, police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams rushed to the scene and began rescuing people.

An Army team was also dispatched to the scene to assess the damage.

According to local residents, the chopper crashed into the dam and was quickly reported to the police, according to SSP Ramesh Kotwal.

According to witnesses, the chopper hovered over the dam before crashing.
The search was being carried out by specialised forces and Army divers, according to officials. According to them, some helicopter parts, as well as a helmet, two large bags, and one shoe, have been recovered so far.

The search for the pilot and co-pilot who were onboard the helicopter is still ongoing, according to Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, Defence PRO based in Jammu. When asked about reports that bodies had been recovered on social media, he said, “They are fake, incorrect.”
