BEST (Brihahanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking), Mumbai’s transportation body, has issued a tender for 1,900 fully electric buses. BEST, which currently operates a fleet of 386 electric buses, intends to complete the acquisition of these extra vehicles by the middle of 2023.
By 2023, these 1,900 fully electric buses will account for half of BEST’s fleet of buses operating on Mumbai roadways.
“This will aid in the expansion of Mumbai’s electric bus fleet, which will provide clean mobility while also reducing emissions. Aaditya Thackeray, Maharashtra’s minister for environment, tourism, and protocol, said, “The Department of Environment and Climate Change is working hard to bring this to other cities in Maharashtra under State and Central Government regulations.”
BEST will offer 1,400 12-meter AC electric buses, 400 9-meter AC electric buses, and 100 mini-AC electric buses out of a total of 2,000 buses.
The Maharashtra government has set a goal of electrifying public transportation in Mumbai and other cities such as Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Aurangabad, and Amravati as part of its EV Policy 2021.
