“Have You Seen This?” Priyanka Gandhi To PM On Viral Lakhimpur Video

[ad_1]

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress leader, posted a viral video of an SUV driving over farmers at a protest in the state’s Lakhimpur Kheri region, just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lucknow. The general secretary of the Congress then asked the Prime Minister a pointed question.

“@narendramodi Sir, your government has kept me in custody for the last 28 hours without any order and FIR. This person who crushed the annadata (farmers) has not been arrested yet. Why?” Priyanka Gandhi asked this morning, tweeting a viral video clip which appears to show farmers being run over by an SUV.

On the violence in Uttar Pradesh, the Prime Minister has yet to speak.

The Congress leader, who said she had been “illegally detained” for over 24 hours by the Uttar Pradesh government, followed up her earlier tweet with a video message for Prime Minister Modi. This time, he held up a phone and played the entire footage, questioning why the Union minister has not yet been sacked.

Leaders from all parties were barred from visiting the area yesterday, with the police even writing to the Lucknow airport, requesting that flights carrying Congress leaders not arrive.

The authorities have yet to verify the video, which has gone viral on social media. Its legitimacy cannot be independently verified by The Chenab Times.

Farmers are seen falling to the ground as the truck crashes them in the 25-second video clip, while others attempt to get out of the way. Another car is seen tailing the SUV that slammed the farmers, with its sirens blaring. The violence on Sunday claimed the lives of eight people, including four farmers.

Farmers at the scene told NDTV that the truck abruptly slammed them from behind, according to the footage. The make and colour of the lead SUV in the video that rams the farmers matches previous images on the site.

A group of farmers protesting in Kheri’s Tikonia district sought to prevent Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya from arriving on Sunday. The demonstrators were enraged by Mr Mishra’s recent remarks.

Farmers said that demonstrators were run over by a car in the minister’s convoy, resulting in violence. Arson was seen in the neighbourhood, as well as automobiles that had been set ablaze. They claim the car was driven by Ashish, the Union Minister’s son.

From the viral video footage, it’s unclear who’s behind the wheel.

The Minister’s son has been charged with murder, although he has yet to be apprehended. Both the Minister and his son have stated that they were not there at the scene.

The Uttar Pradesh government has offered to compensate the families of those who died with Rs 45 lakh. The injured would be compensated in the amount of Rs ten lakh. According to the state government, the incident will be investigated by a retired judge.
