2 shot dead at senior living facility in Maryland’s Prince George’s County, says Police

According to Prince George’s County police spokesman Julie Wright, the shooting occurred at the Gateway Village National Church Residence in the town of Capitol Heights.

Two “team members” of the facility were killed, according to National Church Residences executive vice president Michelle Norris in a prepared statement.

The motive for the shooting, as well as the identities of the perpetrator and those slain, were not immediately available.

People who could walk were evacuated from the building as police responded to the shooting, while those in wheelchairs were urged to remain in their rooms, according to Wright.

“On behalf of the National Church Residences team, please know that the events that transpired this morning at our affordable housing property Gateway Village have left us deeply heartbroken,” Norris stated. “We are proud of our staff’s brave and quick efforts in ensuring that our residents were safeguarded and kept safe.”
