District legal Services Authority Bhaderwah celebrated National Legal Services Day by organising an awareness camp on Legal Services Authorities Act , 1987 and Lok Adalat in the premises of District Court Complex Bhaderwah here today.
Pr District and Sessions Judge Bhaderwah and Chairman District Legal Services Authority Virender Singh Bahu was chief guest on the occasion whereas Special Mobile Magistrate Bhaderwah Munish K Manhas , Sub Judge Bhaderwah Sumiti Sharma and Secretary DLSA ( Sub Judge ) Mudassir Farooq were also present on the occasion.
The programme was also attended by Public Prosecutor, Addl Public Prosecutor, police officers, panel lawyers, senior citizens and para legal volunteers. The attendees were introduced to the aim, objective and importance of Legal Services Day and deliberations were made about the various provisions of the Legal Services Act.Secretary DLSA ( Sub Judge ) Mudassir Farooq highlighted the important schemes of NALSA and the utility of Lok Adalat. Advocate Rama Kant Gupta , Adv Manjeet Razdan and Adv Mohd Majid Malik threw light on the importance of National Legal Services Day . Adv Mohd Majid Malik informed that National Legal Services Day (NLSD) was first started by the Supreme Court of India in 1995 to provide help and support to poor and weaker sections of the society and said free legal services are provided in matters before Civil, Criminal and Revenue Courts, Tribunals or any other authority exercising judicial or quasi judicial functions . He also threw light on Article 39A of the Constitution of India provides that State shall secure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity, and shall in particular, provide free legal aid, by suitable legislation or schemes or in any other way, to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disability and also informed that Articles 14 and 22(1) also make it obligatory for the State to ensure equality before law and a legal system which promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity to all.
Advocate Mohd Majid Malik also informed about the Objectives of Legal Services Authorities which included free legal aid and advice , Spreading legal awareness , Organise lok adalats and promoting settlements of disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mechanisms and added that there are various kinds of ADR mechanisms which are Arbitration, Conciliation, Judicial settlement including settlement through Lok Adalat, or Mediation and Providing compensation to victims of crime.
