Srinagar acid attack victim unlikely to regain her eyesight: Doctors

Doctors treating her at Srinagar’s Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital said Wednesday that the acid attack victim from Srinagar is unlikely to regain her eyesight, but “no conclusion can be taken at this point in time.”

Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh, Medical Superintendent of SMHS, informed the Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the victim’s eyes had sustained corneal damage, and it was unclear whether she would be able to regain her vision.

On Tuesday evening, a 24-year-old girl was attacked with acid in the Wantpora neighbourhood of Hawal in Srinagar, sending shockwaves across Jammu and Kashmir. The attack was highly denounced by people from all walks of life.

However, police announced on Wednesday that the primary offender was among three people arrested in this case, and that a two-wheeler used in the crime was also recovered.

A shop where the accused purchased the acid has also been sealed, according to police.

Meanwhile, the woman is being treated at SMHS hospital after the attack left her with serious damage to her face and eyes.

Furthermore, authorities issued a warning, urging people not to post or share photos of the acid attack victim on social media networks.

“It has come to notice that some social media users and page admin are uploading photographs of yesterdays acid attack victim on social media platforms. These people are advised to refrain from positing and sharing such content. Anybody found involved in this act will be strictly dealt under law. Police have taken cognizance of the matter,” the police advisory reads.
