Narcotic bid foiled in Ramban’s Banihal, Lady from Punjab arrested with 10 kg poppy straw

Ramban Police disrupted a narcotics plot in Banihal, with 10 kg of poppy straw recovered.

On 14 February, police disrupted a narcotics smuggling attempt in Banihal, as part of Operation Sanjeevani’s efforts to tighten the noose on narcotics smugglers. During normal naka checks at Railway Chowk Banihal, a police party stopped a lady pedestrian travelling from Srinagar to Jammu. During the course of the investigation, a 10 kilogramme poppy straw-like substance was recovered in the custody of the lady. When questioned, the woman identified herself as Amarjeet Kour, W/O Jagtar Singh, R/O Latainwala, Kapurthala, Punjab. The culprit was apprehended on the scene, and the recovered contraband was seized as well.

At this regard, FIR No 23/2022 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act has been filed in PS Banihal, and an investigation has begun.

Police party led by Insp Naeem-ul-Haq, SHO Banihal, under the supervision of Nissar Khoja, SDPO Banihal, and under the overall supervision of Ms Mohita Sharma IPS, SP Ramban, made the whole recovery and arrest.

Ramban police have repeatedly appealed to the general public to stay away from the drug epidemic and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
