Econ’s New Rap “Wazul Kashmir”, a Kashmiri Diss Track To Politics?

As the Kashmir Files film is making headlines around the majority of the media houses, a number of criticisms came out after its release. Some claim the film falsely portrays Muslims as enemies of Hindus, while some critics call it a one-sided story. While its makers claim that it is truly based on the history of the Kashmiri Pandits’ exodus.

If you are a hip-hop lover in Kashmir, you may probably follow the Econ, who has released his new song “Wazul Kashmir” (trans. Red Kashmir). The song is based on the situation Kashmiris have been facing for decades. In this music video, a masked guy follows Econ and tortures him, but Econ keeps rapping about what is happening in Kashmir. As you know, Diss Tracks are popular in rapping. Chenab Times was trying to figure out whom he disses in this rap as the main culprit for the situation in Kashmir. In some of his lines where he says, “tuahe yem chu baasaan tareef tim mea haa boo baasaan.Ya chu tuahe bozaan bas akuy kan dayim oure aasaan“. This line indirectly indicates that Econ has dissed former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti. But we can’t claim Econ really blame Mehbooba for the situation in Kashmir because the Rap has wordplays, and rap is mostly used for criticism, which is referred to as a diss track.

While understanding the video story, you can see in the music video that a guy in a mask follows Econ to the end with a rifle in his hand while Econ is rapping about Kashmir. At the end, Econ ripped out the gun man’s mask and got shocked as the gun man was known to him and tried to hide his face from Econ like a person he caught betraying. Econ said something to him and smiled as he didn’t give a damn what the gun man was going to do to him. Later, that gunman kills Econ with a look of guilt on his face. And the most important thing we noticed is that Econ has dissed the mainstream media for portraying the news falsely. As you can see at the end of the video, the news anchor completely faked the whole thing. The video depicts the betrayal of a known person, implying that Kashmiris betrayed other Kashmiris and blamed others.
