Goldi Brar, a close associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder of singer-turned-actor-turned-politician Sidhu Moosewala in Punjab on Sunday.
Punjab Police had previously detained a number of the gang’s associates.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed shock at the murder and urged the public to remain calm. “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Sidhu Moosewala. Nobody involved will be spared. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his fans across the world. I appeal everyone to stay calm,” Mann tweeted.
Moosewala, who had a massive fan base numbering in the millions, was shot dead in broad daylight by gangsters outside his home village in Mansa, Punjab, less than 24 hours after his security was limited by the government, police said. He was 29 years old at the time.
Moosewala was travelling in a jeep with two friends when he was attacked in the village of Jawahar Ke, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mansa) Gobinder Singh.
Moosewala was brought dead to the civil hospital in Mansa, according to civil surgeon Ranjeet Rai. The two other people who were shot have been referred to a different hospital, he said.
