Heavy rains lash Jammu; flash floods in Devak river disrupt normal life

When heavy rains lashed Samba region and the rest of Jammu on Monday, a flash flood erupted in the Devak River in Parmandal area, disrupting regular life.

Heavy rains and high winds pounded Jammu and its surrounding districts in the plains early this morning, causing a flash flood in the Devak River, which stranded three vehicles.

People who were stranded in the river owing to the unexpected rise in water were rescued, according to police.

According to police, as soon as the water level rose, announcements were made warning people to stay vigilant in case of a flash flood. The residents of the area were also asked to stay away from the river.

As the water level dropped, police claimed JCB equipment were used to remove the sand-filled vehicles from the riverbed. However, there was no property damage or loss of life, according to the police.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rains, a school bus became trapped in the middle of the Jammu-Pathankot Highway in Kathua’s Hatli Morh. The pupils were rescued from the bus by residents with the assistance of police.
