AltNews Co-founder Mohammed Zubair Arrested By Delhi Police

One of the founders of the fact-checking website AltNews, journalist Mohammed Zubair, was detained by the Delhi Police today on suspicion of inciting hatred and hurting religious feelings.

Mohammed Zubair was summoned to Delhi for questioning in a different case, according to Pratik Sinha, co-founder of AltNews, but he was arrested in this one. Mr. Sinha claimed that the required notice was not given. Despite our persistent requests, no FIR document has been provided, he tweeted.

According to sources, Zubair was called by the Delhi police on June 27 in relation to a POCSO case, but the High Court has granted him protection from arrest in that matter.

However, according to authorities, Mr. Zubair had joined the investigation into this matter, had registered at the Special Cell police station, and had only been taken into custody “after having adequate evidence on record.” He is still being questioned, and tomorrow, police will ask a magistrate to order him to remain in detention.

It is pertinent to mention, Muhammad Zubair is known for exposing the propagandas of hate mongers. He has busted a number of fake news and exposed them in front of public.

Zubair was also nominated for Noble Peace Prize, according to number of reports. The names of Pratik Sinha and Mohammed Zubair of AltNews were suggested for Noble Peace Price nominations by the directors of Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO).
