Two persons, three cattle killed as a landslide hit “Kotha” (Kachha house) in Kishtwar’s Bangar Dhar

Two people and their cattle died after being crushed inside debris as a landslide hit Gujjar Dhok in the Bangar valley of Drabshalla tehsil in Kishtwar district.

The deceased has been identified as Sayed Mohd, son of Ahmadullah Gujjar and Sayed’s wife Fatima Begum, residents of Mori panchayat in tehsil Bunjwah of Kishtwar district, according to The Chenab Times sources.

A relative of the deceased, Ghulam Mohd Masoodi, who is sarpanch of panchayat Balgran, told The Chenab Times, “Both went to Dhok (Bangar Dhar) on June 28-29 with their three buffaloes, and today, due to a landslide, the couple and their cattle were crushed inside the debris of the landslide.”

However, local sources told The Chenab Times that after nearby people went to the area and got information about the landslide, other locals rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation, retrieving two dead bodies. “We are taking both to Drabshalla, where police will complete the legal formalities and then both will be shifted to the home for last rites,” a local said.
