A free medical camp is underway in the village of Bonhama in Budgam district, organised by Better Hope NGO in collaboration with Sadanah Foundation and Feeding Humanity Welfare. The camp began on August 16th and will end on August 17.
Since the village is remote, there is a complete lack of basic medical facilities as there isn’t a single medical shop in the area.
This is the 5th camp which Better Hope NGO has organised with an aim to provide free healthcare to the vulnerable and most deserving of rural Kashmiri population.
This particular camp is special as it targeted some of the most ignored and socially neglected communities, including the brick labourers that work in nearby brick klins and are in dire need of the bare minimum with regards to healthcare facilities.
The free medical camp included free consultations by specialists in the fields of mental health and anxiety; hypertension; cardiology; ENT; orthopaedic; gynaecology; and had a GP for regular checkups.
Paediatric patients are also being treated and provided with free medicine in the camp. In addition to this, there were facilities like ECG, sugar testing, oxygen level testing and approximately 320 menstrual health and hygiene kits were distributed amongst women.
The camp on day 1 saw an average footfall of 500 people, and they will be expecting more on day 2 of the scheduled camp.
Students from the government’s middle and primary schools were also given consultation and examinations.
The beneficiaries from this camp were thankful to Better Hope NGO for supporting their village, which is neglected and lacking basic infrastructure.
The organisers of the medical camp wish to thank the district administration of Budgam for providing them with the relevant permission to organise this in this area, serving the local Kashmiri communities.
