The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday suspended its Telangana MLA in response to the outrage over T Raja Singh’s controversial statements targeted at Prophet Muhammad. This came hours after his arrest.
In response to protests against his remarks, which resulted in his arrest by the Telangana Police, Singh, who is well known for his hard Hindutva views and frequently contentious utterances involving Muslims, was suspended by the party.
A statement from Om Pathak, who is secretary of the party’s central disciplinary committee, said, “You have expressed views contrary to the Party’s position on various matters, which is in clear violation of Rule XXV 10 (a) of constitution of the Bharatiya Janata Party. I have been directed to convey to you that pending further inquiry, you are suspended from the party and from your responsibilities/assignments if any, with immediate effect.”
In addition, Pathak asked that Singh “show cause” as to why he should not be expelled from the party within 10 days of the date of this notice. The undersigned must get a thorough response by September 2, 2022, according to Pathak.
