“90% of Congress is not Congressi”, the ‘Ailing’ party taking medicines from compounder, not doctor, says Ghulam Nabi Azad

In a new attack on the Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad, the party’s former leader, said on Monday that the party need medications for treatment, which are given by compounders instead of doctors.

Azad, who is now working on his tell-all autobiography, told News18.com: “Around 90% of the Congress is not Congressi. Some CM clerks are hired directly out of colleges, while others have positions. I’m unable to dispute with those who are ignorant of their own past. Even before the G-23, as the Leader of the Opposition, I wrote Mrs. Gandhi a letter. How did they act? They instructed me to work with KC Venugopal. I told them he was in school when I was the general secretary. Then a family member recommended talking to Randeep Surjewala. I mentioned to them that Randeep’s father was a member of the PCC back when I served as general secretary. He worked under me. How can I discuss to his son about the party? What are you saying, Rahul Gandhiji?”

Azad also claimed that the leadership lacked the time needed to fix the organisation.

Days after quitting the Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad intensified his criticism of the Gandhis on Monday, claiming that the old party had been unhappy with him since since the G-23 letter was published. The veteran politician said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an excuse, adding that he has been forced to leave his home.

“I was selected for a G-23 role. My only targets in Congress are sycophants, “said he. Ghulam Nabi Azad is the fourth leader of the G-23 group to quit the party after Kapil Sibal, Jitin Prasada and Yoganand Shastri.

Speaking to reporters at his residence, Azad, who left the party last Friday, alleged that rather than uniting party supporters, the leaders projected in the states are driving them away.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Mr. Azad said that the consultation process that was so successful under Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had been destroyed and that the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s dominant decision-making body, has today become “meaningless.”

Additionally, he said that he would soon create a new party in Jammu and Kashmir because assembly elections could be called at any time and that he would not join the BJP because it would not aid his career in politics there.

“I give my best wishes to the Congress, but the party needs medicines more than wishes. However, compounders rather than doctors are providing these medications to the Congress “He told reporters.

“The party leadership has no time for setting things right in the party. State-promoted leaders are causing people to quit rather than bringing them together with the party “Azad added while criticising the party hierarchy.

He said that the organization’s base had become extremely flimsy and that it may collapse at any time, which is why he and other officials made the decision to leave the party.
