Minor girl among eight dead, three injured in Kishtwar’s Chatroo accident

A 16-year-old minor girl was among eight who died while three others were injured in a tragic road accident in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district on Tuesday.

As per details available with The Chenab Times, a Tata Sumo bearing registration no. JK03B-9117 fell into a deep gorge near the Chingam Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, resulting in eight casualties and injuring three others.

The rescue teams, including SHO Chatroo Parvez Khanday, BDO Chatroo Tasleem Wani, Ababeel NGO, 11RR Indian Army and locals, jointly started the rescue operation and retrieved the dead bodies and injured from the spot. SSP Kishtwar also visited the spot for an overview of the operation.

Talking to the media, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Dr Devansh Yadav said, “Seven death bodies were taken to PHC Chatroo while eight, one of whom is a minor girl, succumbed on the way to district hospital Kishtwar.”

“We are monitoring the condition of the injured. If required, we will refer them to GMC Doda,” he added.

The identification of the deceased and injured was accessed by The Chenab Times and the deceased has been identified as Nusrata Banoo (16) daughter of Fareed Ahmed, Shareef (25) son of Gh Hussain, Fareed (25) son of Noor Deen, Mohd Akbar (28) son of Noor Deen, Fareed Hussain (25) son of Ab Kareem, Bashir Ahmed (35) son of Akbar, Noor Hussain (35) son of Ab Kareem, Nazir (25) son of Akbar, while the injured have been identified as Manzoor Ahmed (25) son of Ab Gaffar, Khatoon Begum (45) wife of Fareed Ahmed, and Akhter Hussain (30) son of Mangu. All were residents of Boonda village in Chatroo in Kishtwar district. The injured are being treated at the district hospital in Kishtwar.
