LG announces decision to declare Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday a public holiday in J&K

The government of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to make Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday a public holiday. Soon, a notification will be released on this.

After meeting with a group that included well-known political figures, Yuva Rajput Sabha members, and members of civil society, including the president of the J&K transport union, at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday night, lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha made the announcement.

“The government has taken a decision to declare Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s birthday as a public holiday. Maharaja Hari Singh was a great educationist, progressive thinker, social reformer and a towering man of ideas and ideals. The public holiday will be a fitting tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s rich legacy,” the LG observed.

Relevantly, the UT administration established a four-member committee earlier this year on the instructions of LG to look into the public demand for a holiday on the anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth.

Prominent political figures attended the event, including Jugal Kishore Sharma, a member of parliament; Dr. Nirmal Singh, a former deputy chief minister; Devender Rana; Sat Sharma; Ajit Singh, the president of the All J&K Transport Union; Rajan Singh, the president of the Yuva Rajput Sabha; and Yuva Rajput Sabha members.

Prior to this, visibly jubilant BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir and Yuva Rajput Sabha president Rajan Singh Happy expressed their gratitude to home minister Amit Shah, the BJP’s national leadership, and J&K lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha for granting the long-standing demand of the people of the Jammu region to declare a public holiday on the birth anniversary of the last Dogra king Maharaja Hari Singh.

September 23rd marks the visionary ruler’s birth anniversary.

Senior BJP figures, including former deputy chief minister Dr. Nirmal Singh, ex-lawmaker Devender Singh Rana, ex-minister Sat Sharma, and BJP MP Jugal Kishore in addition to other figures, met with the LG this evening at Raj Bhavan.

“We had a very cordial meeting with the LG, who principally agreed upon public holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bahadur on September 23. The LG assured us that a notification will soon be published,” Dr Nirmal Singh told reporters after coming out of the Raj Bhawan.

DDC Thathri Sandeep Singh Manhas also congratulated the people regarding declaration of holiday on 23rd September by Government.
