A seminar on the theme “Catch the rain wherever it falls whenever it falls” was organised at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School (Girls) Thathri.
The programme was organised under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Doda and SDM Thathri, according to a press release issued to The Chenab Times.
Principal GGHSS Thathri B.D. Sharma gave a welcome address. On the topic “Catch the rain, wherever it falls, whenever it falls”, a total of four speakers, including Om Parkash BDO Thathri, Ashfaq Hussain (JKAS) Tehsildar Kahara, Mohd Saleem, Assistant Professor, Dr Bushra Wani, Technical Expert, Watershed District Doda, and also two students from Girls HS Sec School expressed their views. The staff of GHSS played an important role in the programme, where Mr. Amirjit Lecturer was stage secretary.
The Chief Guest of the programme, DDC Thathri Sandeep Manhas, gave the concluding address, and in his address he pointed out the example of social activist Anna Hazare and how he on his own transformed the Ralegan Siddhi village from a draught-stricken, poverty-stricken village into an eco-friendly, sustainable village. He stressed that students must learn from his experiences. Finally, he talked about various schemes and initiatives undertaken by the government at the centre and at the UT level to make clean and fresh water available to all the people, but simultaneously, he stressed that the public in general also have to take initiatives at their individual level to make water saving and harvesting a “Jan Andolan”. Only then can we achieve the desired results.
The other speakers also laid stress on the point that rain water needs to be preserved at any cost and simultaneously discussed the techniques and methods of harvesting and saving rain water with students.
Finally, all the dignitaries, along with students, took a pledge to save water from today onwards by adopting different techniques as discussed in the seminar. Mr. Mohammad Yaseen was given the opportunity as a guide of pledge.
Pledging words were: “Water is the root of our life, and its protection is our basic responsibility. We take a pledge that we will try to save water at every step and, at the same time, we will motivate my family and society to save water. We take a pledge not to pollute our water resources and promise to adopt all methods of water conservation. We pledge to incorporate many practises into our lives, such as rainwater harvesting, crop diversification, and tree planting.Not from today, but from now on, we take a pledge to save every drop of water, so that clean water is safe for our next generations. People power to water power-Jai Hind.
At the end, the vote of thanks was present by Mr Amarjit Singh lecturer.
