Dogs and donkeys will be exported from Pakistan to China. China has expressed interest in importing donkeys and dogs from Pakistan, according to officials of the Senate Standing Committee and the Ministry of Commerce in that country. Senator Abdul Qadir said that the Chinese ambassador had previously brought up this arrangement for the export of animals.
According to Geo News, Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi proposed that his country acquire livestock from Afghanistan and then ship it to China because livestock is comparatively cheaper there. However, this suggestion was not considered by the committee citing the lumpy disease scare. The authorities stated that the ban on animal imports was in response to the increasing number of reports of lumpy skin disease in Afghanistan in animals.
At the moment, there are 5.7 million donkeys living in Pakistan. Previously, the country had also sent donkeys to China. To increase the export of the animal, the Punjab government of Pakistan established a donkey farm on more than 3,000 acres in the Okara area, as per reports told The Chenab Times.
The agreement will help both countries’ trading relations. While China uses the animal’s hide to make traditional Chinese medicines, Pakistan has the third-largest number of donkeys worldwide.
