Due to a stiff back, India bowler Kuldeep Sen was unavailable for selection for the second One-Day International against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. Umran Malik has replaced Kuldeep in India’s XI for their must-win encounter against the hosts.
“Kuldeep Sen complained of back stiffness following the first ODI against Bangladesh on Sunday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him and has advised him rest. He was not available for selection for the 2nd ODI,” BCCI said in an official statement.
Kuldeep had made his debut in the series opener a few nights prior at the same location. Although pricey, the right-arm bowler did manage to take a few wickets. His two sixes against Mehidy Hasan shifted the tide in Bangladesh’s favour. To pull off a remarkable victory for Bangladesh, Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman put together an uninterrupted 51-run stand for the last wicket.
India made another alteration to their starting XI in addition to Kuldeep. Axar Patel, a seasoned all-rounder who missed selection due to a niggle, has quickly replaced Shahbaz Ahmed in the lineup after regaining his fitness.
In contrast, Bangladesh substituted Nasum Ahmed with Hasan Mahmud.
After winning the toss, Bangladeshi captain Litton Das decided to bat first.
India needs to win this game. If they lose this one then they will suffer consecutive away ODI series defeats to Bangladesh. The MS Dhoni-led team suffered a 1-2 defeat during India’s previous tour of Bangladesh in 2015.
