18 detained as search operation continues to crack J&K’s Rajouri terror attack case

Six civilians were killed in a recent terror attack in Dhangri village in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said on Saturday that at least 18 suspects have been detained and will be questioned.

They said that a big search was going on to find the attackers and that “some vital leads” had been found. They were hopeful that the case would be solved soon.

When terrorists attacked the village on January 1, they killed six civilians and hurt many others. Four people were killed when terrorists opened fire on the homes of people in a certain community. The next day, two cousin sisters were killed when an IED exploded. The terrorists put the improvised explosive device (IED) in the house of one of the victims.

“The investigation in to terrorist attack is going in the right direction. So far, a dozen and a half suspects, some of whom are women, have been taken into custody and will be questioned ” an official was quoted by news agency PTI.

Mukesh Singh, who is the Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu zone, is overseeing the investigation, which is being done by senior officers under the direction of Haseeb Mughal, who is the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Rajouri-Poonch range.

“Some vital clues have been found that suggest there are terrorists in some villages near Rajouri town,” the official said according to reports reached The Chenab Times.

Mohammad Aslam, the senior superintendent of police in Rajouri, confirmed that at least 18 suspects have been taken into custody.

“We have received some vital leads and are working on those to crack the case. An operation is on to neutralise the terrorists involved in the attack,” the officer said, refusing to divulge any further details, according to news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, an organisation representing the displaced people from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has demanded adequate compensation for the victims’ families.

Rajiv Chuni, the chairman of SOS International, led a group to Dhangri on Saturday. There, he paid tribute to the people who died in the terror attack and criticised the government for not protecting the families who moved to the village after leaving the PoK in 1947.

Chuni told the displaced families to stay together in order to get justice. He said that the government must provide Jammu and Kashmir’s Hindus with enough security, as well as a cash relief of Rs 1 crore and a job for a member of each victim family.

He also asked the community to keep the peace at all costs and stop the bad plans of the enemies of brotherhood.
