Minor hurt in landmine blast

In a distressing incident on Monday, a 15-year-old boy named Mohammad Shoaib was injured in a landmine blast while grazing his cattle along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing dangers faced by civilians residing in border areas.

Upon hearing the explosion, nearby residents rushed to the scene and promptly provided assistance to young Shoaib. Recognizing the severity of his injuries, they immediately transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. The medical staff at the hospital is working diligently to ensure his swift recovery.

The incident sheds light on the precarious conditions experienced by locals who reside near the LoC, where incidents of cross-border shelling and landmine explosions have become distressingly common. The unpredictable nature of these events puts the lives and livelihoods of innocent civilians at risk, leaving them vulnerable to life-altering consequences.

In response to such threats, the administration has taken a proactive approach to enhance safety measures for the residents of border areas. District Development Commissioner Vikas Kundal has issued directives to complete the construction of 3,140 bunkers along the LoC in Rajouri district by March 31. These bunkers are designed to provide secure shelters to the local population during times of heightened tensions or conflict. (PTI inputs)
