In a shocking turn of events in Baltimore, Maryland, a car chase involving a stolen vehicle has resulted in a building collapse and left one person dead and five others injured.
According to Baltimore Police spokesperson Lindsey Eldridge, the incident took place on Wednesday night at around 8:54 p.m. Eastern District officers noticed a stolen vehicle in the E. North Avenue area and attempted to investigate. The vehicle fled from the police, resulting in a car chase that ended with a collision between the stolen vehicle and another car, causing the building at the intersection of E. North Avenue and Wolfe Street to collapse.
Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene and Baltimore firefighters and medics conducted a rescue operation. Unfortunately, a 54-year-old male pedestrian was found among the rubble and was pronounced dead on the scene. The five others, who were occupants of the involved vehicles, were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals. Their conditions are currently unknown.
The Baltimore Police Department’s Special Investigations Response Team and the Crash Team are currently investigating the accident, and the investigation is ongoing.
