Veteran Pakistani actor Qavi Khan has passed away at the age of 80 in Canada on Sunday after undergoing treatment for a kidney-related disease. He started his career as a child star from Radio Pakistan in Peshawar, his birth city. In 1964, he started working at Pakistan Television, becoming one of its early stars.
Qavi Khan began his professional career with the play Lakhon Mein Aik, and later gained immense fame across Pakistan for his role in Andhera Ujala. Some of his other popular TV plays include Fishaar, Lahori Gate, Muthi Bhar Matti, Baityaan, Cinderella, and Durr-i-Shahwar. In 1965, Qavi Khan joined the film industry and acted in movies such as Mauhabbat Zindagi Hai, Chand Suraj, Sarfarosh, Kalay Chor, and Zameen Asman.
The government awarded Pride of Performance in 1980 and Sitara-i-Imtiaz to Qavi Khan in acknowledgment of his services to the country and the showbiz industry. His funeral details are yet to be announced.
Many prominent figures, including Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and former prime minister Imran Khan, expressed their condolences on his death. The senior theatre producer Qaiser Javed remarked that the death of Qavi Khan has created a void that cannot be filled. Arts councils have also announced holding condolence references in memory of Qavi Khan.
The loss of such a prominent and talented actor has left his fans and colleagues in mourning. Qavi Khan’s contributions to the entertainment industry in Pakistan will always be remembered and cherished by his admirers.
