In a historic moment for Indian cinema, the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from the film RRR has won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles. This victory has cemented the song’s place in cinematic history and adds to the already impressive list of accolades it has received.

Composed by MM Keeravani with lyrics by Chandrabose, ‘Naatu Naatu’ is the first song from an Indian movie to win an Academy Award. The song was up against stiff competition from other films such as ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ and ‘Tell It Like A Woman,’ but it was ‘Naatu Naatu’ that ultimately prevailed.

Keeravani and Chandrabose were both present at the ceremony to collect the award and gave a heartfelt acceptance speech. Earlier in the ceremony, the song’s singers, Rahul Sipligunj and Kala Bhairava, gave a breathtaking performance that earned them a standing ovation.

This win for ‘Naatu Naatu’ adds to its recent Golden Globe win for best song, making RRR the first Indian film to win a Golden Globe. The song is a composition that celebrates the lives of freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju, and has captured the hearts of audiences around the world.

RRR, with its all-star cast including Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris, Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, and Ray Stevenson, tells a fictional tale set in the 1920s. The film has now made history with ‘Naatu Naatu’ securing its place in the pantheon of iconic Indian songs such as ‘Jai Ho,’ composed by AR Rahman and penned by Gulzar, which won an Academy Award in 2008 for Best Original Score and Original Song categories.
