Couple held in Jammu for links with Amritpal, 2 bodyguards’ arms licenses traced to Kishtwar, Ramban

Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a couple, Amrik Singh and his wife Paramjit Kour, for their alleged links with the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief, Amritpal Singh. According to officials, the couple was detained for reportedly having links with Papalpreet Singh, a close aide of Amritpal Singh. The couple is from R.S. Pura, Jammu, and was handed over to the Punjab police for further questioning.

The police have seized the couple’s mobile phones, and the matter is being investigated by the Punjab Police. The couple was arrested on Saturday for their alleged involvement in the separatist movement in Punjab.

In a related development, the gun licenses of two bodyguards accompanying Amritpal Singh were traced to Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar and Ramban districts and have been cancelled, official sources said. The district magistrates of the two districts cancelled the arms licenses of Talwinder Singh and Virender Singh, who were seen accompanying the pro-Khalistan Sikh leader in several videos.

The cancellation of the arms licenses comes amid growing concerns about the use of firearms in the ongoing separatist movement in Punjab. The Punjab government has been cracking down on separatist groups, and several arrests have been made in recent weeks. The police have also intensified their efforts to curb the supply of illegal arms to separatist groups.

The Jammu and Kashmir police have been working closely with the Punjab police in tracking down individuals and groups with links to the separatist movement. The arrest of the couple and the cancellation of the arms licenses of the two bodyguards are seen as a significant development in the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
