Clashes Erupt as Imran Khan Arrested: Stone-Pelting and Heavy Shelling on Srinagar Highway, 30 Protesters Held

Tensions escalated on Friday as clashes erupted between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and the police on the Srinagar Highway in Islamabad. The incident occurred as Pakistan’s former prime minister, Imran Khan, was being escorted to the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Thousands of Pakistanis had gathered at Srinagar Highway G-13 in Islamabad, expressing their solidarity with the PTI chief.

The situation turned violent when security forces attempted to control the crowd, resulting in stone-pelting and heavy shelling along the Srinagar Highway. In response to the escalating violence, 30 individuals were arrested by the security forces. The clashes led to the closure of the highway for traffic, as authorities sought to restore order and ensure the safety of the public.

The Islamabad police issued a statement on Twitter, informing the citizens about the closure of the Srinagar Highway. The public was advised to seek alternative routes until the situation was under control. The imposition of Section 144, an emergency order banning gatherings of more than four people, remained in effect in Islamabad.

The arrest of Imran Khan, the prominent political figure and former prime minister, has triggered a wave of protests and demonstrations across the country. Supporters of the PTI expressed their discontent with the arrest, leading to clashes with law enforcement authorities. The arrest of Khan and subsequent confrontations highlight the political tensions prevailing in Pakistan.

The Islamabad High Court will likely play a crucial role in determining the fate of Imran Khan and the legal proceedings surrounding his arrest. The incident has drawn attention to the ongoing political landscape, raising questions about the balance between law enforcement and the right to protest.

As the situation unfolds, authorities are closely monitoring the developments and taking necessary measures to maintain law and order. The clashes on the Srinagar Highway serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by the Pakistani government in managing political dissent and ensuring public safety.

The government and law enforcement agencies are expected to intensify efforts to restore calm and resolve the ongoing crisis. The situation remains fluid, and further updates are anticipated as events continue to unfold.
