In an exciting development, Gulmarg, the famous ski resort nestled in the picturesque valley of Kashmir, is gearing up to host a prestigious G20 event. With all necessary arrangements now in place, the Chief Executive Officer of Gulmarg Development Authority, Ghulam Jeelani Zargar, expressed confidence in welcoming the high-profile delegation to the scenic tourist destination.
In an exclusive interview with Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Zargar highlighted the significance of this global summit for Gulmarg’s tourism sector. “This grand event will not only captivate the attention of domestic tourists but also attract a substantial number of foreign visitors,” Zargar remarked. He further revealed that April alone witnessed a record-breaking 1.40 lakh tourist arrivals, reflecting the growing popularity of Gulmarg.
With the upcoming G20 event, Gulmarg anticipates an unprecedented influx of international tourists, creating a golden opportunity for the local tourism industry. Zargar believes that this experience will prove to be a game-changer, setting the stage for future growth. “We are expecting the highest number of foreign tourist arrivals this year,” he added.
To ensure a memorable experience for both the delegation and tourists, various aesthetic enhancements have been made to the existing infrastructure. New footpaths, medians, and furnished roads have been developed, transforming the landscape of Gulmarg. In addition, hoardings, welcome boards, and signages have been erected to guide and inform visitors. The Narbal-Gulmarg stretch, the road connecting Srinagar to Gulmarg, is also undergoing extensive renovation to present a fresh and inviting appearance.
April witnessed an exceptional surge in footfall, with the largest cable car cooperation sales surpassing the remarkable milestone of 1 crore. Previously averaging around 40,000 sales, this remarkable increase further reinforces Gulmarg’s reputation as a sought-after tourist destination.
