In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended four individuals, including a photojournalist, on Thursday in north Kashmir. The arrests were made during separate operations, resulting in the recovery of a substantial quantity of contraband substances.
At a checkpoint established at Kanispora, officers from the Delina Police Post intercepted a motorcyclist attempting to evade the spot. The individual was identified as Inayat Qayoom Baidar, a resident of Khawajabagh in Baramulla and employed as a photojournalist. Despite his efforts, the police tactfully apprehended him. A subsequent search led to the seizure of 12 grams of Brown Sugar from Baidar’s possession. The suspect was promptly arrested, and his motorcycle, bearing registration number JK05J-2513, was also confiscated, according to a statement issued by the police spokesman to the news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
In a parallel operation, a police party from the Baramulla Police Station, stationed at Khanpora Bridge, arrested two drug peddlers. The individuals were identified as Afaq Hassan Lone, son of Ghulam Hassan Lone, and Showkat Ahmad Gani, son of Ghulam Mohd Gani, both residents of Qazi Hamam and Khawaja Sahib in Baramulla, respectively. During the search, officers discovered 160 grams of Charas in their possession. The suspects were subsequently transferred to a police station, where they remain in custody pending further investigation.
In another incident, a person aroused suspicion while attempting to evade a police party at a checkpoint established on the Baramulla-Handwara Highway in Bunpora Langate. Officers from the Langate Police Post apprehended the individual, identified as Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Subhan and resident of Bunpora Langate. Upon searching Mir, the police discovered 80 grams of Charas. Mir was immediately taken into custody and transferred to the police station for further proceedings.
The police have registered cases against the apprehended individuals under relevant sections of the law at the respective police stations, initiating comprehensive investigations into their alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
