The Union Finance Ministry has announced the launch of a new ₹75 coin to commemorate the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The coin, according to a notification issued by the Ministry, will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28.
Designed to celebrate this historic occasion, the circular coin will have a diameter of 44 millimeters. It will be composed of a quaternary alloy, consisting of 50 percent silver, 40 percent copper, 5 percent nickel, and 5 percent zinc.
The obverse side of the coin will feature the iconic Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar at the center, with the inscription “सत्यमेव जयते” (Satyameva Jayate) below it. The word “भारत” (Bharat) in Devnagri script will be present on the left periphery, while the word “INDIA” in English will appear on the right periphery.
On the reverse side, an image of the parliament complex will be displayed. The upper periphery will bear the inscription “संसद संकुल” (Sansad Sankul) in Devanagari script, while the words “Parliament Complex” will be inscribed in English on the lower periphery.
Meanwhile, in a collective decision, 19 Opposition parties, along with the AIMIM separately, have declared their intention to boycott the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building on May 28. Their decision stems from their dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s choice to inaugurate the building himself, which they perceive as a disregard for President Droupadi Murmu and a violation of the Constitution.
The new Parliament building, a symbol of India’s democratic values and aspirations, is set to witness a momentous occasion as it is inaugurated by the Prime Minister. The introduction of the ₹75 coin further adds to the significance of this historic event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled inauguration of the new Parliament building signifies the country’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and establishing a modern seat of legislative power. The coin, with its unique design and composition, serves as a tangible token of remembrance for this remarkable milestone in India’s parliamentary history.
