In a joint operation conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, army, and CRPF, an active associate of the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group was apprehended, along with a Chinese grenade, in Kishtwar district.
The arrest took place in Cherji area of Kishtwar, as informed by a police spokesperson in an official statement. Acting on intelligence inputs, the district police of Kishtwar, along with the 17 RR and CRPF 52 Battalion teams, detained the individual identified as Mohd Yousaf Chouhan, son of Mohd Abdullah Chouhan, and a resident of Chhar Cherji in Kishtwar.
The police spokesperson stated, “District Police Kishtwar received information regarding the involvement of Mohd Yousaf Chouhan in militancy-related activities. Consequently, a case FIR No. 117/2023 U/S 13/18/39 UAPA, 4/5 Exp. Substance Act was registered at P/S Kishtwar.”
Upon the disclosure of the accused, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Mr. Khalil Poswal-JKPS, dispatched teams comprising police personnel, army personnel, and CRPF personnel to the area. The joint operation resulted in the recovery of a Chinese grenade from the Cherji locality.
In light of this development, an extensive search operation has been initiated in Cherji, Chicha, and Padyarna areas of Kishtwar. The objective is to apprehend any active militants operating in the district and gather further leads related to the case.
SSP Kishtwar, Mr. Poswal-JKPS, cautioned the youth against falling prey to the malicious intentions of militant organizations, which could adversely impact their future prospects. He further urged the public to promptly inform the police about any suspicious movement or activities of militants, enabling swift and appropriate action to be taken against them.
