In a heartfelt conversation with The Chenab Times, Saddiq Mattoo, the eighteen-year-old cricket sensation from Drabshalla, Kishtwar, shared his remarkable journey and his aspirations to represent Team India as an opening batsman. Despite the physical distance, the passion and enthusiasm in Saddiq’s voice were palpable as he recounted his inspiring tale.
“I have always been passionate about cricket since I was a young boy,” Saddiq began. “At the age of ten, I joined the Sehwag Cricket Academy, where I received excellent coaching and guidance that helped me refine my skills and shaped me into the cricketer I am today.”
Saddiq’s dedication to the sport was unwavering, even during his school days. “I completed my schooling at the esteemed Ex Servicemen Public School in Thathri,” he shared. “But my love for cricket took me to Jammu in 2013, where I believed I would find better opportunities to pursue my passion.”
Balancing his academics and cricket, Saddiq successfully completed his 10+2 education at SP Smart School in Jammu. “It wasn’t easy, but I was determined to excel both in my studies and on the cricket field,” he expressed. “I firmly believe that a well-rounded education is essential, and I am currently pursuing an LLB degree from Law School Jammu.”
When asked about his current cricketing journey, Saddiq proudly spoke about his role as a top-order batsman for the Jammu University team. “Playing for Jammu University has been a tremendous experience,” he shared. “Representing my institution and competing in various tournaments across different states has helped me grow as a cricketer and face tough competition.”
Saddiq’s hard work and talent have not gone unnoticed, as he elaborated on his recent accomplishment. “I am extremely proud to share that I have been included in the final selection list of the JKCA U19 Talent Hunt for 2023,” he exclaimed with excitement. “It’s a significant milestone for me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to showcase my skills in the trial matches.”
With his sights set on playing for Team India, Saddiq spoke passionately about his dreams and aspirations. “Being an opening batsman for the national team has always been my ultimate goal,” he revealed. “I want to represent my country on the international stage and make a name for myself.”
