26 Dead as Bus Catches Fire on Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, Probe Ordered

In a tragic incident on the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway, a bus traveling from Yavatmal to Pune caught fire, resulting in the loss of 26 lives and leaving several others injured. The incident occurred around 2 am on Saturday in Buldhana district, Maharashtra.

According to reports from the Buldhana Police Deputy SP Baburao Mahamuni, the bodies of 25 victims have been recovered from the bus so far. A total of 33 individuals were onboard the ill-fated bus, with six to eight people sustaining injuries. The injured have been swiftly transported to Buldhana Civil Hospital for treatment.

Regrettably, one individual succumbed to their injuries at a later stage. However, the driver of the bus emerged unharmed, as confirmed by Buldhana SP Sunil Kadasane.

Providing further details, SP Sunil Kadasane stated, “Out of the 33 people onboard the bus, 26 lost their lives, while 7 sustained injuries. The driver of the bus survived the incident and reported that the bus overturned after a tire burst, resulting in flames engulfing the vehicle.”

In response to the tragic incident, a compensation of Rs 5 lakh has been announced for the families of the victims of the Buldhana bus accident.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed his heartfelt condolences for the devastating accident involving a private bus on the Samruddhi Expressway near Sindkhedaraja in Buldhana district. In light of the incident, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered an inquiry to investigate the circumstances that led to the bus catching fire.

In an effort to assess the situation firsthand, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, will be visiting the accident site.

The incident has caused immense grief and sorrow throughout the state, and authorities are working diligently to provide support to the affected families. The investigation will help determine the exact cause of the tragedy and ensure that necessary measures are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
