In a significant operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended four individuals involved in drug peddling in Sopore, a town located in the northern part of Baramulla district. The suspects were caught attempting to bypass a checkpoint near the Amargrah crossing during routine naka checking. Law enforcement officials discovered psychotropic substances in their possession.
The individuals have been identified as Zubair Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Mohammed Ganie from Badam Bagh; Junaid Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Nabi Shah from Neharpora; Mohammed Asif Mir, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir from Shalpora; and Rouf Ahmad Chopan, son of Mohammad Subhan Chopan from Kupwara.
Upon conducting a thorough search, a substantial quantity of 984 Spasmoproxyvan plus banned tablets was recovered from the suspects. The seizure of these controlled substances highlights the dedication of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in combating the illicit drug trade in the region.
In response to the incident, a case has been registered with FIR No 61/2023 at the Amargrah Police Station under relevant sections of the law. This legal action marks the initiation of further investigations into the matter, as authorities seek to gather more evidence and uncover potential links to larger drug networks.
