Inclement Weather Forces Temporary Closure of Kishtwar-Sinthan Road and Schools in Kishtwar District

PIL filed in J&K High Court against the Sinthan road's delayed opening

The authorities in Kishtwar district were compelled to take swift action in response to the adverse weather conditions that have been affecting the region since the early hours of the day. As a precautionary measure, both the Kishtwar-Sinthan Road and all government and private schools in the district will remain closed on July 19, 2023, according to sources of The Chenab Times.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Chhatroo, taking into account the safety concerns, issued a communique to temporarily close the Kishtwar-Sinthan Road for traffic movement. The decision was made in response to the inclement weather prevailing in the region, which includes heavy rainfall and potential hazards that could pose risks to commuters and motorists. Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during this period until the road is deemed safe for use.

Additionally, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Kishtwar district also issued an order for the closure of all government and private schools in the area. The decision to suspend schooling activities on July 19, 2023, is primarily driven by the ongoing heavy rainfall and further weather forecasts predicting persistent adverse weather conditions. The closure aims to prioritize the well-being and safety of students, ensuring they are not exposed to potential risks arising from the inclement weather.

In a statement issued by the CEO, it was emphasized that students should be promptly informed about the school closures to avoid any inconvenience. By taking this proactive measure, the education authorities aim to prevent students from facing difficulties in commuting to and from school during unfavorable weather conditions.

Authorities continue to monitor the weather situation closely, and further updates regarding the reopening of the road and resumption of schooling activities will be provided based on the prevailing conditions. The district administration advises the public to remain vigilant, follow safety guidelines, and cooperate with the instructions issued by the authorities until the situation improves.
