“Justice for Zeeshan”: Mysterious Death of Jammu and Kashmir Student Sparks Demands for Thorough Investigation; Funeral Held in Hometown Kishtwar

The death of Zeeshan Ahmad, a BAMS student at Desh Bhagat University in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, has left his family and community in shock and grief. The tragic incident, which occurred when Zeeshan allegedly falls from a building inside the university hostel, has raised suspicions and prompted demands for a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Zeeshan Ahmad, son of Irshad Ahmad Baigh, hailed from Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, and had been pursuing his studies at Desh Bhagat University. The news of his untimely demise sent shockwaves through the region, leading to allegations of harassment by the university administration, and calls for justice from various quarters.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association, representing students from the state, has taken up the cause to seek justice for Zeeshan. Adil Bhat, the National Spokesperson of the association, stated, “The Chief Patron of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, has already contacted the authorities in Punjab and has spoken to the Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Baltej Pannu, who promised to provide all necessary support to expedite the investigation.”

According to Zeeshan’s father, Irshad Ahmad Baigh, his son was allegedly subjected to harassment by the University administration, including the imposition of a heavy fine, which reportedly took a toll on Zeeshan’s mental well-being. “Due to this harassment, he fell into depression,” lamented the grieving father. An FIR has been filed, alleging murder and harassment, prompting the need for a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure justice for Zeeshan.

The association’s chief patron, Nasir Khuehami, expressed concerns over the incident and highlighted the failure of the university administration to provide medical aid or an ambulance during the tragedy. He emphasized the importance of an unbiased probe to determine the true sequence of events leading to the fateful incident.

In response to the mounting pressure and concerns raised by the Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association, the university authorities have constituted a three-member inquiry panel to investigate the student’s suicide. The panel has assured to submit an unbiased report within two days, striving for a comprehensive and transparent investigation.

Umar Jamal, the National General Secretary of the association, stressed the significance of a fair and impartial probe. The association’s leadership has garnered assurances of assistance from the Punjab Chief Minister’s Media Advisor, Baltej Pannu, who has pledged to do everything necessary to expedite the investigation.

In light of the gravity of the situation, the Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to form a dedicated team to investigate the mysterious death of Zeeshan Ahmad. The family and community hope that a comprehensive inquiry will bring out the truth and provide closure to their sorrowful hearts.

As Zeeshan Ahmad’s mortal remains were laid to rest at the ancestral graveyard in Huller Kishtwar on August 1, as per The Chenab Times sources, the demand for justice echoed in the minds of those gathered to bid farewell to their beloved son, brother, and friend. The search for answers continues, and the pursuit of justice for Zeeshan remains unwavering.

Burhan Dar, an activist from Kishtwar said, “Huge traffic jam occurred during the funeral procession in Kishtwar town, all of us are hoping for justice for Zeeshan.”

The incident has raised serious questions about the safety and well-being of students, especially those hailing from distant regions, studying far away from their homes. The entire nation watches as the investigation unfolds, hoping for transparency, accountability, and a resolution that would prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
