Security Tightened Across Jammu Ahead of Independence Day Celebrations

In anticipation of Independence Day celebrations on August 15, security measures have been significantly enhanced across the Jammu region, particularly along the borders with Pakistan. The move aims to thwart any potential disruptions to peace in the area, according to officials.

Massive ‘tiranga’ rallies, symbolizing the national flag, are being organized in various districts of the region as part of the preparations for the upcoming Independence Day festivities. In light of these events, both the army and the Border Security Force have escalated their vigilance along the 225-km Line of Control (LoC) and 192-km International Border (IB), as reported by officials.

The security arrangements include increased area domination and thorough checking within the hinterland. To further bolster these efforts, local police have issued a security advisory in the border district of Rajouri. The advisory seeks the cooperation of residents during security checks and urges them to promptly report any suspicious movements or objects to the authorities.

Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh, led a joint meeting of various security agencies last week. During the meeting, he called for heightened alertness and ‘offensive operations’ to counter potential terror threats. Strengthening the border security grid, implementing anti-drone measures, setting up joint checking points at vulnerable locations, and enhancing inter-district boundaries were also stressed as crucial measures.

The focal point of Independence Day celebrations in Jammu city, the Maulana Azad Stadium, has been virtually sealed off with an increased deployment of police and paramilitary personnel. Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, personally inspected and finalized the arrangements at the venue during a recent visit.

The ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign, launched in sync with the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, has witnessed enthusiastic public participation in various activities across the Jammu division. Alongside the ‘tiranga’ rallies, the festivities have also included the installation of martyrs’ statues, the establishment of Amrit Vatikas (sacred groves), and extensive plantation drives.
