In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on Tuesday morning, four lives were tragically lost when a truck met with a fatal accident on the treacherous Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Sher Bibi, Ramban district. The incident occurred when the truck, bearing registration numer JK03J-0312 and en route from Jammu to Srinagar, was struck by a massive boulder, subsequently veering off the road and plunging into a deep gorge.
According to official reports, the force of the collision was devastating, leading to the instantaneous loss of all four occupants within the ill-fated vehicle. Local authorities, including the police and dedicated rescue teams, rapidly responded to the scene, recovering the victims’ bodies as swiftly as possible.
This incident not only resulted in the tragic loss of life but also had significant implications for traffic in the region. A landslide at Kishtwari Pather Banihal led to the complete blockage of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. As a result, traffic from both ends of the highway has been brought to a standstill. Commuters are strongly urged to refrain from traveling on NH-44 until receiving confirmation from Traffic Control Units that it is safe to do so.
SHO Banhal Mohammad Afzal Wani, shedding light on the incident, explained that the accident transpired when a substantial rockslide occurred in the Sherbibi area of Ramban. The aforementioned truck, en route from Jammu to Srinagar, found itself in the path of the tumbling rocks, leading to the tragic loss of life for its four occupants.
In response to the calamity, prompt and decisive action was taken by both the police and Banihal volunteers to initiate a rescue operation. Their combined efforts bore fruit as the four bodies were retrieved and promptly transported to the Sub District Hospital Banihal.
