Kokernag Gunfight Resumes: Police says Two LeT Militants, Including Local Uzair Khan, Involved in Killing of Army Officers, DySP

Security forces have resumed their operation in the Gadole area of Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district following a fierce gunfight that claimed the lives of Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak, and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Humayun Bhat. The Kashmir Police Zone announced the continuation of the operation via their official X account, expressing solemn tribute to the bravery of the fallen officers who led from the front.

“In solemn tribute to the unwavering valor of Col Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak & DSP Humayun Bhat who laid down their lives leading from the front during this ongoing operation. Our forces persist with unwavering resolve as they encircle 2 LET terrorists including Uzair Khan,” the X post read.

Uzair Khan, a local resident of Kokernag, has been identified as one of the two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants involved in the deadly encounter. The tragic incident occurred on the previous day when a fierce gunfight broke out in the Gadole area, resulting in the loss of three officers.
