An ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the forested area of Soom-Broh village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district has resulted in injuries to two soldiers, according to officials on Tuesday.
The operation was initiated late in the evening on Monday following reports of suspicious movement in the region. Joint teams comprising the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir police, and CRPF had cordoned off the area, launching extensive search operations throughout the day. During these operations, sporadic gunshots, described as ‘speculative firing‘ by security forces, were reported.
In a significant turn of events, terrorists opened fire on the search teams from the forested area late on Monday evening. In retaliation, a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between the security forces and the militants.
“Two army personnel sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and have been promptly evacuated to the army hospital in Rajouri. Their condition is reported as stable,” officials confirmed, as per news agency KNO.
Broh and Soom villages, located in the hinterland of Rajouri district, fall under the jurisdiction of Kalakote police station. The encounter remains ongoing at the time of this report.
